Where it comes from
Few strains carry as much folklore, and the record is careful about it. Arjan, of Green House Seeds, traces his White Widow to 1992, received directly from Ingemar De Sjamaan, the Dutch breeder credited with founding her in the late 1980s. She has been a fixture of the Dutch coffee shops since the nineties. As with most legends, the full story rather depends on who you ask — but the make-up is plain enough: Brazilian over South Indian, resin-heavy, and lasting.
Nose & flavour
Incense leads, which is a fitting note for a strain of her vintage — that resinous, almost ceremonial top over a base of pine and earth. It is a classic profile rather than a fashionable one, the kind that has been recognisable across three decades of coffee-shop menus. Rich, grounded and unmistakably of the old guard, with the incense the signature that gives her away.
