Which GMO should you grow?

The right GMO comes down to how long you want to wait and how much room you have: strength is a given either way.

Photoperiod or autoflower? Photoperiods give the full plant and the biggest listed yield (Barney's Farm, to 641 g/m²); bloom time varies widely, from about 53 days on a fast-finished cut to 78 on a traditional one, so check before you buy. The autoflower is listed at 73 days seed to harvest, finishing on its own clock with no flip to time.

How much headroom have you got? The versions stay manageable. The shortest here is the auto at about 110 cm; the photoperiods run to about 150 cm. Read the height column against your plans before you buy.

GMO photoperiod (feminized)

The photoperiod versions are the full GMO: grown on a light schedule, 18 hours a day in veg and 12 to flower. Flowering varies widely: a fast-finished cut is listed at about 53 days, a traditional one at up to 78, so check both the flowering time and the height before you buy. Listed THC sits in the mid-to-high twenties, 25–28%, across heights listed at 120–150 cm.

GMO autoflower

The GMO autoflower here is the simplest way into a strain otherwise sold as photoperiods. An autoflower runs on its own clock from seed to harvest, no light schedule to flip and no timing mistake to make, and this one is listed at about 110 cm. It keeps the pungent, savoury GMO character and lists 24% THC, a touch below the photoperiods but still firmly strong. If you want GMO without a light cycle, this is the version to look at; if you want the biggest listed yield or more versions to choose from, look at the photoperiods, including a fast-finished cut for anyone who would rather not wait out the longest flowers.

How GMO grows

GMO reads intimidating on paper, up to 90% indica, THC in the high twenties, but the grow can be kinder than the numbers suggest. Dutch Passion's GMO Fast is listed at a brisk 53 days, and they call it surprisingly easy despite the power, happy indoors or out and suited even to a short outdoor season.

The plants stay medium in height. Heights across the versions run 110–150 cm, so most tents will hold her comfortably. Only the slowest cut asks for real patience: Barney's feminized line takes its time at 78 days. Dutch Passion say Think Fast lives up to its name by shaving weeks off the usual GMO timeline; their GMO Fast is listed at 53. The one auto, Barney's, is listed at 73 days from seed and 110 cm, with no light change to time. Pick your version by how long you are willing to wait, because the character arrives either way.

World Wide Cultivars call theirs a medium plant, listed at 150 cm (Herbies list theirs at 150 too), and make much of the resin-rich buds and heavy trichome coverage. They give the practical warning that comes with it: the trichome load means clean scissors, kept clean, will save you a good deal of muttering at harvest. Steady basics and a version matched to your patience cover the rest.

Where GMO comes from

GMO is a modern name, also sold as GMO Cookies, and the catalogue mostly agrees on its make-up. The best-known telling crosses Chemdog with Girl Scout Cookies: Chemdog supplies the funk and the fuel, Girl Scout Cookies the sweetness, as World Wide Cultivars put it. Breeders vary the spelling, Chemdawg or ChemDog D, and Dutch Passion take a different road, crossing in a Think Fast line specifically to shave weeks off GMO's long flowering. The autoflower folds in a Super Auto line for the automatic habit. Breeders quote her heavily indica, usually 80 to 90%.
