Named for buds that turn green and purple like the aurora it's styled after — a fitting flourish for a strain stabilised by Nevil Schoenmakers from Afghani and Thai landraces in the mid-1980s. Sweet, sour and fruity on the nose, with a relaxed, euphoric, creative high. Only Skunk #1 and Haze rival its influence on cannabis breeding since.
Where it comes from
Named for the resinous, crystal-coated buds that show green and purple like the aurora it borrows from — a fitting flourish for a plant stabilised by Nevil Schoenmakers from Afghani and Thai landraces in the mid-1980s. Herbies Seeds carry the classic forward. The record credits it with several Cannabis Cup wins and a dominance of the harvest festivals, and reckons only Skunk #1 and Haze rival its influence since. Few strains earn that comparison; this one does.
Nose & flavour
Sweet, sour and fruity — a livelier nose than the heavy indica lean might suggest, the sourness giving it a bit of snap over the sweet, fruity base. A well-balanced aroma that keeps the interest without turning cloying. The crystal-coated buds carry it generously; this is a plant that smells as good as it looks.
The high
Relaxed, euphoric and creative — a touch more lift than a pure indica usually allows, the small sativa share keeping the head engaged while the body settles. At 17 to 23% THC it covers a broad and capable band. A well-rounded effect that has kept it in favour for decades: settling, but not dulling. The reference point, for good reason.
