Seb Silverback

Northern Lights, autoflowered and every bit as content in temperament as her forebear. Sweet, pungent, fruity, with the traditional skunky aroma intact; the high is sleepy, relaxed and happy — a wave of calm at 16% THC that won't overpower anyone.

Where it comes from

Northern Lights needs no introduction, a famous name with a long line of versions behind it by the record's own account. Pyramid Seeds crossed her with Ruderalis to make this autoflowering rendition, trading the ritual of light schedules for a plant that flowers on its own clock rather than yours. What survived the cross intact was temperament: the same stress-free, content character the older versions are prized for. Autoflowered, then, and every bit as easy-going as her forebear, with the ceremony quietly removed and nothing of the manner lost in the process.

Nose & flavour

The nose is the traditional skunk you would expect of the family, sweetness first and a pungency underneath that does not travel discreetly. A fruity note rounds the harder edges. Nothing baroque here, this is a plainly-spoken aroma, honest about its lineage, and it carries the same character cleanly through to the smoke. Loud enough to notice, familiar enough to welcome.

The high

A couple of draws is enough. What follows is a wave of relaxation that moves through the body and settles, leaving one sleepy, relaxed and generally happy about the arrangement. At 16% THC it will not overpower anyone, a gentle sort of evening, the kind that ends in an armchair rather than a discussion. Easy company, and forgiving of a heavy hand.

Growing it

She flowers in around 70 days from seed and stands anywhere between 60 and 150cm, so give her the headroom in case she takes the taller option. Yields sit at a respectable 400 g/m², with 1% CBD alongside the 16% THC. As an autoflower she asks little of the calendar and, with a forgiving indica temperament, little of the grower either. A sensible first plant, or a dependable filler between more demanding projects, that returns a decent amount for very modest effort.
