Seb's take

Seb Silverback

Pine, earth and berry on the nose, from a Juicy Fruit and Afghani cross that took the High Times Cannabis Cup in 2000 and never really left the coffee-shop menu since. The high is sleepy, relaxed and medicinal, delivered by a plant that grows quickly at every stage and yields to match.

Where it comes from

This is the Dutch Passion Blueberry itself, the strain much of this chapter is descended from, built from Juicy Fruit and Afghani. The record notes its win at the 2000 High Times Cannabis Cup, and the coffee-shop reputation that followed and never really faded. An 80 percent Indica with a genuine pedigree, it is the reference point against which most of the other blues here are measured, and one of the reasons the family grew as large as it did.

Nose & flavour

Pine and earth frame a core of ripe berry, a rounder, more resinous read on the fruit than the sharper hybrids that came after. The record simply calls her full of flavour, and the three notes on file back that up: sweet berry over something greener and more grounded. A classic nose, and the one that set the template.

The high

The effect is relaxed and, in time, sleepy, a heavy, settling Indica high with little in the way of a cerebral overture. At 20 percent THC against an unusually high 3 percent CBD, it is a mellow, rounded sort of strength rather than a sharp one. Evening company, plainly, and the kind you sink into rather than ride.

Growing it

She grows quickly through every stage, the record notes, and finishes flower in around nine weeks, 63 days. No height is set down, so I will leave that to your room; the yield on file is a modest 300 g/m² indoors, which is honest about what this older line was bred for, flavour ahead of tonnage. What she gives up in weight she returns in reputation, and a plant with a Cannabis Cup behind it tends to grow with few complaints.
