Seb Silverback

Bred by Franco Loja in the late nineties, Super Lemon Haze won High Times honours twice before this autoflowering version arrived to do the same job with less patience required. Lemon and citrus dominate an earthy, pungent nose, and the high is upbeat and cerebral — talkative, focused, difficult to sit still through.

Where it comes from

This is the autoflowering version of the original Super Lemon Haze, and the original carries a genuine pedigree. It was bred in the late nineties by Franco Loja of the Netherlands-based Green House Seeds, and it took first prize at the High Times Cannabis Cup in both 2008 and 2009 before this ruderalis-crossed turn arrived to do the same job with less patience required. The photoperiod parent's reputation is inherited whole; the autoflowering trait simply spares the grower the wait and the light arithmetic.

Nose & flavour

Lemon and citrus dominate, exactly as the name and the lineage demand, set over an earthy, pungent base that gives the aroma some weight and length. The fruit is the bright first impression, the earth and pungency the grounding behind it. It is an intense, forward nose rather than a delicate one, the citrus reading loud and clear over everything beneath it.

The high

An upbeat cerebral high, as befits so lemony a sativa. It runs talkative and focused, difficult to sit still through, lifting the mood and setting the mind going rather than settling the body. Energetic, uplifted and creative company, the kind of effect that suits doing something rather than nothing. Bright, lively and disinclined to let the afternoon go quiet.

Growing it

A medium autoflower reaching roughly 90 to 130cm, finishing in 60 to 67 days from the off. The yield is heavy for an auto at 610 g/m², and THC runs 17 to 20 per cent with a touch of CBD at 1 per cent. She keeps the intense lemony character of her photoperiod parent while shedding the wait, which is the whole point of the exercise. A productive, forgiving plant that returns real weight without demanding a photoperiod's discipline in return.
