Afghani stock crossed with Dutch genetics, and named for the destination the high suggests rather than the journey - energetic, creative, and euphoric rather than earthbound. Citrus, dank, and skunky on the nose. Fast-growing, and dressed for the occasion in autumn leaves of red, orange, and purple.
Where it comes from
The Afghani half supplies the backbone; the Dutch line supplies the polish, and Paradise Seeds put the two together into Spoetnik #1. The name looks skyward, as one might expect of anything carrying a Russian satellite for a namesake, and the plant obliges by growing determinedly toward the sun on a thick central stem, open branches reaching out to survey their surroundings. Autumn brings the party trick: leaves of red, orange and purple turning over one another. A medium-tall lady with an Afghan constitution and continental manners, rather better dressed than most of the garden.
Nose & flavour
The nose leads with citrus, sharp and clean, before the dank, skunky underside makes itself known - this is not a discreet plant. A grape sweetness threads through the aroma, the sort growers tend to mention fondly. Skunk stock rarely travels quietly, and the Afghani heritage only deepens the register. Pleasant company in the room, provided the room is ventilated.
The high
For all the Afghani weight in the lineage, the effect points upward: energetic and focused at the front, creative and euphoric as it settles, uplifted and generally cheerful throughout. A daytime disposition rather than an evening one, better suited to getting things done than to the armchair. Named for orbit, and the head does seem to leave the ground before the body remembers it is invited.
Growing it
She flowers on a soldier's schedule, fifty to fifty-five days, and grows quickly toward it - Paradise call her fast, and she earns it. Expect around 500 g/m² from a medium-tall frame built on that thick central stem, with open branching that appreciates a little room to spread. The heliotropic habit means she leans toward her strongest light, so turn her if she favours one side. THC sits at 18 to 22 per cent. An honest, characterful grow with a colourful finish for the patient.
