Seb's take

Seb Silverback

Chem's Sister, Sour Apple and Chocolate Diesel combine for wood, cinnamon and chocolate on the nose — an unusually rich profile for the family. At 28-33% THC the high is properly psychedelic before it settles into the sitting-down sort, a couch-lock finish that arrives fast, in just 55-65 days.

Where it comes from

Herbies Seeds assembled old aunty Apple Betty from Chem's Sister, Sour Apple and Chocolate Diesel, a three-way that leans sixty percent Indica. It is a lineage with more going on than the homely name lets on: the Chem's Sister lends the pungent depth, the Sour Apple the orchard note, the Chocolate Diesel the richness. Not as quaint as you would expect, in the breeder's own words, and I am inclined to agree.

Nose & flavour

Wood, cinnamon and chocolate on the nose, which is an unusually rich and rather dessert-like profile for the family. It is the cinnamon and chocolate that surprise, warm and full, over a woody base that grounds them. A distinctive nose, and a more sophisticated one than the name across the packet would suggest.

The high

Even an experienced hand is caught out by the first strong wave of euphoria, before her warm embrace takes over and pulls firmly toward the centre of the sofa. Properly psychedelic at the outset, then the sitting-down sort; you will not be needed elsewhere. At 28 to 33% THC this is a sipping strain, not a session one, so approach as you would a staircase in the dark.

Growing it

Fifty-five to sixty-five days in flower, which is remarkably quick for effects of this weight, on a medium, robust, bushy frame of eighty to a hundred and twenty centimetres. Indoors she musters six hundred to eight hundred grams the square metre, with far more outdoors, and every bud is frosted with sticky trichomes that will gum up your scissors. At 28 to 33% THC she is heavy in every sense. A generous, fast grow for a plant this potent.
