How to grow Skunk Special
Taste
Seb's take
A 50/50 hybrid tracing to Colombian, Mexican and Afghan stock, refined over the years to flower faster without losing its Skunk character. The lineage does the talking here, since little else survives about her original notes. Balanced, and honest about what she is.
Where it comes from
Female Seeds' Skunk Special is a 50/50 hybrid built, at root, from the same three-continent stock that founded the whole Skunk story — Colombian, Mexican and Afghan. Much of the work here has gone into refining the flowering time without sacrificing the iconic Skunk character, which is a sensible ambition for a line whose reputation was always as much about reliability as about anything else. The record keeps the detail sparse, but the lineage is clear and the intent plain: a faster, feminised, balanced Skunk that still tastes like the original idea.
Nose & flavour
No formal tasting notes survive in the record, so the family name must carry the nose. A Skunk cross of this pedigree can be relied upon for the pungent, earthy funk the whole category takes its name from, with the sativa side lending a touch of brightness over the top. I will not embroider what the record leaves unsaid — but a Skunk smells of Skunk, and this one is unlikely to be the exception.
The high
The record sets down no effect profile, and a 50/50 hybrid is by design the plant that splits the difference — neither the head-forward rush of a pure sativa nor the anchored calm of a pure indica, but something poised between the two. Beyond that even balance the record offers nothing firm, and I would rather be accurate than inventive. Honest about what she is: a middle path, evenly drawn.
Growing it
THC runs a gentle 10–15%, with 1% CBD. She flowers quickly, in seven to eight weeks, stays compact at 70–90cm, and returns 400–450 g/m² — a tidy, contained plant with a respectable crop for its size. The years of refinement show in that brisk finish, achieved without losing the Skunk temperament that made the line worth refining. A straightforward, fast, well-behaved grow, balanced in the flower and forgiving in the pot.
