Seb's take

Seb Silverback

Afghan landraces crossed with admirable Kush hybrids, in a strain that wears its old-school pedigree honestly rather than loudly. Sweet, pungent, earthy on the nose, with a relaxed, calming, happy finish. Resilient and fast to flower - a Kush for the budget-conscious, without cutting corners on the smoke.

Where it comes from

Royal Queen Seeds built this by breeding top-shelf indica landraces against equally indica-leaning hybrids - Afghan over Kush - for an old-school Kush at eighty per cent indica. The record's pitch is honesty over glamour: a resilient, fast, affordable plant that keeps the quality without the ceremony. No exotic parentage, no tall tales, just well-chosen indica stock doing what indica stock does. A Kush for the grower who wants substance over spectacle.

Nose & flavour

Sweet up front with a pungent edge and an earthy base beneath - the classic Kush register, unfussy and familiar. The record does not stray from the old-school signature, and there is comfort in that. A carbon filter would not go amiss given the pungency. Nothing novel on the nose, and nothing wanted; this is the traditional profile, cleanly done.

The high

Seventeen per cent THC behind a relaxed, happy, calming finish - the settled, easy-going end of the indica spectrum rather than an overwhelming one. A gentle evening's company. The strength is moderate and honest, which makes her forgiving of a heavier hand than a stronger plant would allow. Comfortable and undramatic, exactly as an old-school Kush should be.

Growing it

Fast and compact - 60 to 100cm, finishing in a brisk forty-nine to fifty-six days - with yields of 425 to 475 g/m². The record's selling point is resilience: a hardy, low-maintenance plant that suits every kind of grower, the budget-conscious included. Little special care is asked. Give her a tidy setup and the full seven or eight weeks and she returns a solid, dependable harvest without complaint. A sensible workhorse.
