Seb's take

Seb Silverback

Short, forgiving of enthusiasm, and generous with it - Punky Lion suits the first-time grower as readily as the seasoned one. Sweet orange citrus gives way to spice as she finishes, and the high settles into relaxed, sleepy, distinctly hungry territory. Fifty-odd days to flower, and no shortage to show for it.

Where it comes from

Matanuska Tundra and Chronic, an unlikely pairing on paper. The first hails from Alaska's Matanuska Valley, a cold-climate line bred for hardiness; the second, Chronic, is a byword among growers for sheer yield. Samsara Seeds have joined them into a wholly Indica plant that inherits toughness from one parent and generosity from the other. A northern constitution, in short, put to productive work.

Nose & flavour

Sweet orange citrus leads the nose, earthy and woody underneath, with a spicy-herbal note that develops as she finishes; the late flower brings the spice forward. A rounded, homely aroma rather than a showy one, closer to a warm kitchen than a fruit stall.

The high

The high is the sitting-down sort: relaxed and euphoric easing toward sleepy, with a decided appetite arriving alongside. Keep something to eat within reach and a glass of water nearer still, for she does dry the mouth. An evening's companion, not a morning's, and content to keep you where she finds you.

Growing it

Short in flower at 50 to 55 days and short in stature too, which makes her forgiving of enthusiasm, as suited to a first grow as to a practised hand. She carries apical dominance, so topping around four weeks into veg evens the canopy and lifts the yield further. Indoors she reaches 600 g/m²; outdoors a striking 900g per plant, ready to come down in late September. Around 18% THC. Generous by any measure.
