How to grow Original Sour Diesel
Taste
Seb's take
The strain that started the entire diesel category, and the one still setting the standard — sour fuel, tar and skunk on the nose, noticeable from a kilometre off and no friend to a household without a carbon filter. The high is energetic, talkative, uplifted and creative, sharp enough to focus the mind rather than fog it.
Where it comes from
The strain that kicked off the entire diesel trend, here in Cali Connection's rendering from a Sour Diesel clone crossed with a Sour OG male. Its pungent aroma of sour fuel, noticeable from a kilometre away by the record's own reckoning, made it instantly famous, and it has since been folded into countless other strains to pass that diesel trait along. This is the source rather than a copy, the plant that set the standard the whole category still measures itself against.
Nose & flavour
The defining diesel nose, and the loudest of them: sour fuel, chemical sharpness and skunk, with tar and an earthy floor beneath. Pungent barely covers it. This is the aroma that named a category, and it does not travel discreetly under any circumstances. It fills a room and then the corridor. A carbon filter is not optional here so much as a basic courtesy to everyone around you.
The high
Energetic, talkative and uplifted, with a creative, happy and focused streak running through it. It is a bright, sociable effect that sharpens the mind rather than fogging it, the kind that suits conversation and momentum. A proper daytime sativa experience, clear and lively, keeping you engaged and articulate rather than sunk into a chair. The high the diesel reputation was built on.
Growing it
A feminized plant with a longer flowering period of 70 to 75 days, so patience is part of the deal. THC sits at 20 to 21 percent, with CBD at 1 percent. The record gives no height or yield figure, so I will describe temperament instead: she enjoys her time in the spotlight and wants a minimum of 600w HID lighting to be at her best, and she exudes one of the most pungent aromas known, making a carbon filter an absolute necessity. A demanding but rewarding classic for a grower with the setup to match.
