Seb's take

Seb Silverback

Original Cheese and Black Domina meet in a strain that stretches well past its 80% indica billing once flowering starts — mind the low ceilings. Citrus, fruit and a spiced sourness on the nose, with hunger, relaxation and uplift in the high. A short veg and 60-65 day flower make her a quick trip down memory lane.

Where it comes from

Ripper Seeds set out to build a blast from the past, and did it by crossing two names that carried the 1990s, Original Cheese and Black Domina. Old School is the result, an 80% indica meant to send you down memory lane to a simpler time on the shelf. The Cheese supplies the tang, the Black Domina the density and the dark. A deliberate piece of nostalgia, then, and one honest enough to earn the name it wears.

Nose & flavour

A lively, layered nose, citrus and fruit up front, a herbal, spiced warmth beneath, and a sour edge keeping the whole thing sharp. More complex than the plain name suggests, it draws on both parents without letting either dominate. The Cheese tang shows through the sourness in particular. A characterful aroma, and not a shy one.

The high

An indica-led high with a sociable streak, uplifting to open, relaxing as it settles, with an appetite arriving to keep matters honest. At 24% THC it has real substance, the sort that eases you into the evening rather than through it. Nothing about it is subtle, but nothing is unpleasant either; it does the old-fashioned work an 80% indica is meant to do, and does it well.

Growing it

Watch the ceiling with this one. Though 80% indica on paper, she stretches considerably in the first fortnight of flower, enough to look almost sativa, so plan for the height before she surprises you. Veg is short at two to four weeks, and total flowering runs 60 to 65 days to a highly dense, resinous bud. The record notes she does not want too much feeding, which is a mercy. A quick, generous grow, provided you have given her the room to make her move.
