Seb's take

Seb Silverback

A careful backcross of Mimosa Evo and Orange Punch, indica-dominant at 65 per cent but none the heavier for it. Sweet lemon and citrus on the nose; the high runs uplifting, happy and euphoric rather than sedate. As pleasing to look at as it is to smoke, by the breeder's own account.

Where it comes from

Barney's Farm made this by backcrossing two of their own harder-to-find strains, Mimosa Evo and Orange Punch, and the record calls the result stupendous with the quiet confidence of a breeder pleased with the work. It comes out indica-dominant at sixty-five per cent, though with a still-generous thirty-five per cent sativa influence to keep it lively. A feminized cross bred for looks as much as effect, and pleasing on both counts by the maker's account.

Nose & flavour

Sweet lemon and citrus lead, both parents contributing to a nose that is bright and clean. The Orange Punch side keeps the fruit front and centre, the sweetness rounding it out underneath. It is a citrus profile with polish, the sort that reads as deliberate rather than accidental. Fresh, sweet and easy to place from the first waft.

The high

For an indica-dominant plant the effect stays surprisingly bright, uplifting, happy and euphoric rather than sedate. The sixty-five per cent indica lends body without dragging the head down, so the lift comes through clearly. It is cheerful company, more mood-raising than couch-bound, the sativa third pulling its weight. A pleasant, sociable experience that wears its indica majority lightly.

Growing it

She stays compact at 70 to 80cm, easy to house indoors, and finishes quickly for the class at 55 to 60 days. Yields reach 700 g/m², heavy for the footprint, with THC noted at 26 to 30% and CBD around one per cent. As pleasing to look at as she is to smoke, by the breeder's own account, which is worth something when the harvest is on show. A short, quick, generous plant that asks little in the way of space. Standard care suffices.
