How to grow Laughing Buddha
Taste
Seb's take
An 80% sativa cross of Thai and Jamaican landraces that took a High Times Cannabis Cup and lives up to its cheerful name without irony. Sweet, earthy and berry-toned on the nose, the high runs happy, energetic, and — the record insists — aroused. A terpene-loaded strain that does not need much introduction.
Where it comes from
Barney's Farm crossed Thai and Jamaican landraces for Laughing Buddha, an 80 percent sativa that took a High Times Cannabis Cup and lives up to its cheerful name without a trace of irony. The two landrace parents supply the pure sativa reach and the tropical character, and the cross is a terpene-loaded one by the record's account. A pedigree drawn straight from the equatorial classics, and a Cup to show for the assembling of it.
Nose & flavour
Sweet and earthy, with a berry note lifting it, the landrace parentage showing in the depth rather than any single loud tone. The record makes much of the terpene load, and it reads that way, layered and full without being sharp. A warm, fruit-touched profile that suits the sunny character of the plant. Inviting, rounded, and generous on the nose.
The high
Bright and buoyant, as the name insists. Happy and energetic, with, the record adds plainly, an aroused edge to it. It is a lively, upbeat sativa effect, the equatorial parentage keeping the head clear and the mood high. Good daytime company, cheerful in the way its namesake promises, and disinclined toward the couch. A plant that laughs, and encourages you to.
Growing it
A patient grower's sativa. Flowering runs a long 70 to 75 days, as pure equatorial lines tend to, but the reward is a heavy 600 g/m². The plant stays a manageable 100 to 110cm despite the sativa lean, so it does not demand the ceiling that height might suggest. THC sits at 22 percent, with CBD at 1.6 percent, a notably generous CBD figure for a plant this bright. Budget the flowering time, keep the room warm in the landrace manner, and the terpene-loaded crop justifies the wait.
