Seb's take

Seb Silverback

Jacks Cleaner, Purple Urkle and Space Queen combine in Qleaner, a strain the breeders describe as taking a long journey to stabilise - the heavy resin and citrus-lemon nose suggest it was worth it. She turns purple given the right conditions, adding a bit of mystique to an otherwise straightforward, energetic, creative high. Modest in THC, generous in everything else.

Where it comes from

Three lines meet here — Jacks Cleaner F1, Purple Urkle and Space Queen — and the Q in the name tips its hat to that Cleaner parent without spelling it out. The breeders at TGA Subcool describe it as taking a long journey to accomplish, and speak warmly of the strain's stability and heavy resin once it settled. Purple Urkle lends the colour, Space Queen the fruit, Jacks Cleaner the backbone. A patient bit of work, by their own account, and one they seem quietly pleased with.

Nose & flavour

Sweet citrus leads, lemon sharpest among it, with tropical and tree-fruit notes filling out behind. The record makes much of the smell and taste the breeders created, and the heavy resin production that carries it — enough to gum up your scissors and perfume the room. She turns purple given the right conditions, which adds a little theatre to the harvest.

The high

For all the modest THC, listed at 10%, the effect is anything but sleepy. It runs bright and forward — happy, euphoric, uplifted — with an energetic, creative edge that suits daytime and company. Modest in strength, generous in character; a sociable smoke that leaves the head clear and the hands inclined to do something.

Growing it

Neither height nor yield is recorded, so I will not invent them. What the record does give is a flowering time of 60 to 70 days and a plant that colours up purple when the conditions oblige — cooler finishing temperatures being the usual persuasion. The breeders praise its stability above all, which is worth more to a grower than any single number: a predictable plant that does the same thing twice. Heavy resin means clean, sharp scissors and a steady hand at trim. Treat her patiently, as her makers plainly did.
