Seb's take

Seb Silverback

A landrace out of Santa Marta, Colombia, brought north in the '60s and still one of the genuine classics, patient to harvest but generous once it gets there. Earthy, pungent, lemon, skunk and woody notes on the nose; the high is euphoric, energetic, happy and notably talkative. Crystal-covered and worth the wait.

Where it comes from

About as classic as it gets. A landrace out of the mountainous Santa Marta region of Colombia, recognised since the 1960s, when it was carried north to the United States. Herbies keep the line. Adapted from landrace sativa stock and running 75% sativa, it is one of the genuine originals, a plant whose provenance is a matter of record rather than marketing.

Nose & flavour

Earthy and pungent up front, with lemon lifting it, a skunk note underneath and a woody depth grounding the whole thing. The record also mentions sweet, fruity notes radiating off the crystal-covered buds. It is a full, old-world sativa aroma, complex without being fussy, and it wears its landrace heritage plainly.

The high

Euphoric and energetic, happy with it, and notably talkative, the classic clear-headed sativa lift that made these landraces worth carrying across a continent. Relaxed at the edges rather than the centre. Sociable and bright, the kind of effect that keeps a room in conversation rather than sending it to bed.

Growing it

A feminized plant at 18 to 20% THC. Flowering takes a patient 77 days, roughly eleven weeks, which is the landrace tax, though the record notes she is not hard to maintain and can be grown even by an amateur. Height runs around 150cm. Yields come in at 397 to 458 g/m², and the buds arrive beautiful and crystal-covered for the wait. Patient to harvest, then, but forgiving to grow, and generous once she gets there. Worth the time on both counts.
