Seb Silverback

OG Chocolate Thai and Cannalope Haze combine in a sativa-dominant classic (95%) that stretches to 200cm or more if left untrained — topping, FIMing and SCROG all welcome. Coffee, earth, sweet, pungent and nutty on the nose; the high is happy, uplifted, energetic, creative and euphoric in generous measure. Give her the headroom, or train her hard.

Where it comes from

DNA Genetics built this by crossing OG Chocolate Thai with Cannalope Haze, and the result runs 95% sativa, near enough as far as that dial turns. Both parents are haze-and-Thai stock, and the offspring wears it plainly: fast, vigorous, and inclined to grow like it has somewhere to be. A sativa-dominant classic assembled from two well-regarded lines, with the chocolate character coming down from the Thai side.

Nose & flavour

Coffee leads, dark and roasted, with earth beneath it and a sweetness that keeps the whole thing from turning bitter. There is a pungent edge and a nutty note rounding it off. It is a grown-up nose, more espresso than confectionery, and it carries the Chocolate Thai heritage without needing to announce it.

The high

Generous and upward-tending: happy, uplifted, energetic and creative, with a euphoria running through all of it. This is the sativa side of the family doing the talking, a clear-headed lift rather than a weight. Good company for work you actually want to do, and it keeps its momentum longer than most.

Growing it

Fast and vigorous, with plenty of branching, and if left to her own devices she will reach 200cm or more. Indoors she runs 120 to 150cm, which is where topping, FIMing and a SCROG earn their keep, both to hold her down and to lift the yield. Flowering finishes in eight to nine weeks or more, with some phenotypes wanting an extra fortnight to mature fully. Buds are long and fluffy and prone to mould, so keep the air moving. Yields land at 500 to 600 g/m². Give her the headroom, or train her hard, but decide which before she decides for you.
