Seb's take

Seb Silverback

Spice, lemon and fruit on the nose, with a whisper of anise the record insists is genuinely there. The high runs uplifting, euphoric and energetic, true to her Haze and Asian ancestry, from a plant that stretches past three metres outdoors — give her the headroom — and needs a SCROG frame to behave indoors.

Where it comes from

The record leaves Botafumeiros' parentage blank, so I will not draw a family tree Sweet Seeds have not signed. What they do set down is the shape of her: 75 percent Sativa, built on Haze and Asian ancestry, with the long stems and large branches that heritage always brings. As for the name, the Botafumeiro is the great swinging censer of Santiago de Compostela, and a strain this aromatic wears the reference well enough that one suspects it was no accident.

Nose & flavour

Spice and lemon lead, with a broader fruitiness behind and, the record insists, a genuine touch of anise threaded through it. That last note is the one that lingers, a liquorice-sweet edge you do not often meet. Fitting for a plant named after a censer: this is an aromatic, perfumed nose rather than a simple fruity one, and it carries.

The high

The effect is lively and stimulating, true to her heavily Sativa heritage, uplifting, euphoric and energetic, a daytime high with momentum to it. At 18 to 20 percent THC it lifts and keeps you moving rather than settling you down. Company for doing something, in other words, not for sitting still.

Growing it

A proper Sativa in the tent, and to be treated as one. She stretches past three metres outdoors in open soil, so this is a plant for the sky rather than the cupboard, give her the headroom. Indoors she wants a SCROG frame and a firm hand on those long branches to keep her in bounds. Flowering runs a patient ten weeks, and the reward is high for a mostly-Sativa plant: 400 to 600 g/m² of long, thick, resin-bright buds. Room and patience are the price of entry.
