Black Jack reads like an encyclopedia of Old World genetics, Black Domina and Jack Herer up front, with Northern Lights, Hash Plant, Afghani, Shiva Skunk, and Haze somewhere in the footnotes. Herbal and woody with a spiced, incense-like edge and a touch of citrus, the high lands happy and euphoric with just enough energy to stay upright. A history lesson, rolled.

Where it comes from

A direct descendant of Black Domina and Jack Herer, and between them a small encyclopedia of old-world genetics — Northern Lights, Ortega, Hash Plant, and Afghani on one side, Shiva Skunk and Haze on the other. Sweet Seeds balanced the result at an even fifty-fifty, and the family tree reads like a roll-call of everything that built modern cannabis. There is more history in this one plant than in most whole catalogues. A history lesson, rooted.

Nose & flavour

Herbal and woody at the base, with a spiced, almost incense-like edge and a lift of lemon over the top. It is a complex, layered nose — the Haze citrus meeting the darker indica weight — with an earthy grounding beneath. A genuinely interesting set of terpenes that makes the strain stand apart from the sweet crowd.

The high

The even split shows in the effect: uplifting, happy, and energetic, a bright lift from the Haze and Jack Herer side with just enough body from the indica half to keep it grounded. At sixteen to twenty-one per cent it is capable daytime company, lively without turning frantic, and disinclined to see you anywhere near the sofa too soon. A well-balanced, good-humoured high.

Growing it

Give her the headroom — she reaches three metres given the room, so this is one for a tall tent or the open air rather than a cupboard. Flowering runs around sixty-three days for 500 to 600 g/m². The Haze and sativa heritage brings real vigour and stretch, so train and support her early where space is short. A generous yielder with a great deal of history in her, provided you can house the height.
